Section 1.1 Propositional logic

While we may wish to understand all statements, this is too daunting of a task. Human language is just too subtle and nuanced. Instead, we develop a theory for understanding certain types of simpler statements known as propositions. There is a overlap between these simple statements and statements that are used outside of this context. For the most part the meanings agree, but there are instances where the intended meanings are different. Because of this, we will be precise about what we mean mathematically.
In this section, we develop a framework to study propositions. The rules of logic give precise meaning to propositions and help us understand the validity of arguments.
